Thread Count โ Beyond the Marketing
Thread count is one of the most misused metrics in home bedding:
- 200โ300 count with single-ply combed cotton is superior to 800 count with multi-ply short-staple yarn
- Beyond 400 count, the added yarn typically comes from multi-plying โ which does not improve the fabric
- For premium bedding, specify single-ply combed cotton at 300โ500 count
- Advertised counts above 800 are almost always inflated
