The Changthangi goat (Capra hircus) — source of authentic Kashmir cashmere — grazes at 4,000+ metres in the Ladakh plateau. Micron Count — What Grade A Actually Means

Fibre diameter is the definitive quality measure. Grade A cashmere measures 14–15.5 microns; Grade B is 15.6–17 microns; Grade C is 17.1–19 microns. Anything above 19 microns cannot legally be sold as cashmere in the EU or US.
